So... I think I've figured out the chemical composition of seastone. It's... really complicated! The structure is like nothing I've ever seen before. Hey, I heard there was another scientist doing research on it, too. Is there any way to get access to any of his published writings? Has he ever published anything on the subject?

Lucy, thanks for the schematics of Dawn. I'm working on a fireproofing method right now. I think it's going to be awhile before I get the seastone stuff figured out, so I'm taking a break until I can find some more reliable sources.

Levi, Natsu, I might need your help as well. Levi because you might be able to help me with the transmutation, Natsu because you know a lot about fire.

When are you gonna need help? Happy and I were gonna take Bob fishing again. We wanna catch a kraken!

Uh, well, anytime, really. I just don't know that much about fire itself. Like, I'd need to know what your fire needs in order to exist. I mean, beyond the obvious oxygen and fuel. I'm going to try to make Dawn fireproof, so knowing what kinds of things will not burn but also not weaken your ability would be really useful.

Aye, a Kraken would sure be tasty... anything I can do to help?

I need as much information as I can get about Natsu's fire, so I can fireproof Dawn without making him weaker or something while on the boat.

Aye, well Natsu's flames tend to get more powerful the more emotional he gets. I imagine if he got REALLY mad he could most likely keep his flames going even in some of the worst conditions... although if it's on a boat... he might get sick

So they feed off of his emotions? Hmm...

Aye, I know just the way to work him up.

Don't worry Natsu, I'm sure if you can't handle it Gray can. In fact why bother? You should just let Gray do it.

If Lucy were here she could summon that water lady. But I'll see what I can do about carrying some buckets of water.

Huh. So I guess this really is alchemy. Only instead of lead into gold...

I'm starting to think seastone would be worth a lot more than gold. Just um, don't let the World Government catch on.

Date: 2009-03-19 07:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] not-hollow.livejournal.com
Uh, yeah. Gold is pretty easy to make, actually. It's just a pure element. Hehe.

What? Why? I mean, I kinda work for them, would I get in trouble?

Do I need to get rid of this journal post, then?

Do you know how to lock or filter your posts?

I wouldn't worry too much. Garp won't care and if he likes you he'll probably make sure you don't get in any trouble. Just um... be careful who you tell about it. DON'T tell any other officers (and Garp would have to look the other way so don't tell him, he won't care if he finds out I think but don't specifically tell him) and as for published findings... Even if such a thing existed they would have been sought out and destroyed.

Err, not really. I'm still new to the network. We didn't have stuff like this in Amestris at all! It's really neat! The basics of browsing and typing weren't that hard to pick up. You can filter things? How do I learn how to do that?

What? Why would they be destroyed? I thought I heard that the guy worked for the government. Why would they pay him and then destroy his research? That makes no sense.

I'll send you an explanation on how to lock stuff.

Heh, you don't know much about governments yet, do you kid? Well let's just say... Well... hmm. Have you spoken with Kaku or Lucci or Jyabura yet? Basically... governments are like people. Only the difference is governments do what they say is "best for their people." And they're the ones who decide what's best. So they say "killing one person to keep something secret is better for millions of other lives." That sort of thing.

ooc: sounds like a plan. ^_^

Thanks, Miss Fujiko!

Well, the one in Amestris was kinda... messed up. But not everyone in it. I haven't talked to any of those people yet. That still doesn't explain why the government here would hire someone to research seastone and then destroy all of his work. Maybe the guy doesn't exist. It was just a rumor I heard, anyway.

He likely does exist. I kept thinking seastone was naturally forming and that the government just mined it but if it's something they have to create...

Not all marines are like that. I mean there's you and Garp and Abe and Smoker and a few others. Just keep in mind, not all are like Garp and Smoker either. Some marines are out for the power and a lot of the government officials will do whatever they think is necessary. And unfortunately...

Where I came from, all governments were like that. At least I think so. They probably were. There's a theory that power corrupts, another one is just that power draws in corrupt people who'd use it for that purpose. Either way, just be careful. Oh and uh, if you have ANY means of setting your research to not to be seen if the wrong people find it... do that. Set it to trigger a burn trap or something if you have to have it on paper. It's better if you can just memorize it. I keep my files triggered to delete themselves without the appropriate 4 passwords and since no one even knows one of my passwords...

Seastone is a natural phenomena. I just... like to learn how to make natural stuff myself.

Hehe. Right. Well, I do have a personal code that I use when I write all my alchemy notes. Only me and Nii-san can understand it. Maybe our teacher could, since we developed it while we were with her. But she wouldn't tell anyone. She hates the government.

Well that makes sense too. Like gold but a compound instead of element.

Depending on how much of it you leave behind, codes are crackable. I've been cracking codes since I was 15. They can be broken. But it sounds mostly like they won't even know to look into cracking it so maybe you don't have to worry too much. Maybe.

Thanks, Levi! I appreciate it. If I do come up with a way to fireproof Dawn, I'm gonna need to make a HUGE reaction, and I'll feel better about having someone else there with me to help me control it. Actually, I should probably have you researching with me so we can be on the same page about what we're doing. That way our efforts will be more in synch and there will be less chance of a rebound.

From: [identity profile] fairy-script.livejournal.com
Oh, people told you to? Well...I'm no good at transformation magic, but I'm good at things like translation, encryption and decryption, spell-breaking, and research. And I know about alchemy from reading! Maybe that counts? Can you learn about it accurately from reading?

Date: 2009-03-19 09:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] not-hollow.livejournal.com
Uh... not really.

But I'm sure you'll still be a big help! And I can show you how to do it, so you can practice doing transmutations on your own. Actually, it'll probably be better that way because then we'll be used to working with each other.

Sort of. I'm an alchemist! I do study a lot of chemistry, though. They're really closely related.

Uh, my name's Alphonse. What's yours?
